A woman and her two sons died in a Chhaupadi hut fire at Agaupaani in Budinanga Municipality of Bajura district.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night near their home. Police identified the woman as Amba Bohora, 35, and her sons Suresh, 9, and Ramit, 7.

One local Pur Bahadur Rawat said the trio might have died due to suffocation as only the cloths inside the hut have caught fire. Family members knew about it only in the morning when they went to check the hut after they did not wake up until late in the morning, said municipality mayor Shristi Regmi.

Chief District Officer Chetraj Baral informed a police team has been dispatched to the incident site. The site is five hours walk from district headquarters Martadi.
