The government has announced to cancel all promotional activities related to the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign in foreign countries. The decision comes in the wake of the rapid spread of COVID-19 across the global and the risk of transmission through travelers.
A cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to this effect.
According to Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai “We have decided to cancel all promotional programs for the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign abroad due to the outbreak of coronavirus,”
“All such promotional campaigns and events will be cancelled until the situation improves. We will now focus on domestic tourism and promotion. Our priority will be in promoting domestic tourism to offset any adverse impact from the global slowdown of tourism,” added Minister Bhattarai.
According to sources, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oil floated a proposal to stall the Visit Nepal Year 2020 in the cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, the government has also stalled Sagarmatha Sambad over coronavirus which the government was organizing for the first time.
Similarly, the government is also putting a halt on-arrival visas from the next week.
With the WHO announcing that Nepal is at high risk of coronavirus, the Nepal government is making preparations to save its citizens from the new virus.
