Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista today pledged to punish manpower companies involved in swindling migrant workers.
Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Organisation Kaski in Pokhara, Minister Bista reiterated that action would be taken against manpower companies that swindle youths going abroad for employment.
“My ministry is working to help youths go to Malaysia and Gulf countries without paying any charge,” Minister Bista said.
Minister Bista said unskilled Nepali youths were forced to go abroad for employment by taking loan from money lenders at exorbitant interest rates.
“Hundreds of thousands of youths are going abroad for employment. The government wants to retain them in the country by generating employment opportunities,” he added. “The government will start a campaign to spread the message that no work is small, so that youths start working at home instead of looking for jobs abroad” he added.
Saying that Employment Regulation was passed, Minister Bista said the government was planning to make public ‘Prime Minister Employment Programme’ to provide employment to youths.
Bista admitted that the incumbent government had failed to meet people’s expectation. “The delay in formulation of laws and polices has prevented the government from achieving the desired result,” Bista explained.
Bista said working journalists too would be brought under the social security network soon. “The government will bring social security programme in public, cooperative, private and self-employment sectors,” Bista held.
