The NSU organised a protest rally that converged into a corner meeting at Chardobato Chowk in Banepa. The protesters obstructed the traffic flow for around half an hour.
The NSU has been organising various protest programmes across the nation following Dhakal’s arrest. The student organisation earlier burned PM Oli’s effigy in various parts of the country demanding immediate and unconditional release of Dhakal. The union had also enforced a two-day educational strike in Kavre on Sunday and Monday.
Kavre police had also arrested journalist Om Prasad (Kabiraj) Dhakal, chief editor of an online portal, for sharing the same photo posted by Krishna Dhakal in a group chat saying “Will police do anything to the person who posted PM Oli’s photo morphed with a dog?”
Police arrested journalist Dhakal on cyber crime charges after he shared the image on a group chat operated by the police used for sharing information between police and journalists.
Various media organisations, including Federation of Nepali Journalists, expressed dissatisfaction over the police action.
