Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will be attending the oath-taking ceremony of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, in New Delhi today.
PM Oli, on Monday, received an official invitation to attend the ceremony.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially begin his second term as the Prime Minister of India after his oath-taking ceremony scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm today. Modi became India’s prime minister for a second term after the landslide victory of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its coalition the National Democratic Alliance in the 17th Loksabha elections.
PM Oli is accompanied by his spouse and other high-ranking government officials. PM Oli will also hold bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart, on Friday before his return.
During his visit, PM Oli will hold bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart. But the issue on which the meeting would be held has not been disclosed yet. However, MoFA source has said that they will discuss relations between the two countries, details of which will be disclosed after their meeting if something notable happens.
The heads of state/government of the BIMSTEC nations, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the current chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth have also been invited to PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.
The heads of state/government of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations have not been invited in Modi’s oath-taking ceremony this time. It has been noted that representatives of Maldives and Afghanistan were invited during his first swearing-in. The list of SAARC nations also includes India’s neighbour Pakistan.
In 2014, when Modi was elected as the Indian PM for the first time, the then prime minister of Nepal Sushil Koirala attended the swearing-in ceremony with heads of states of the SAARC nations.
