Rautahat-chapter of Nepal Student Union, the student wing of Nepali Congress (NC), on Monday burned Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s effigy, demanding the release of its leader arrested for sharing doctored image of the Prime Minister in social media.
Police had arrested Krishna Dhakal, the NSU unit chairman of Tapeshwor Secondary School in Kavre district, for posting a distorted photo of PM Oli on Facebook.
The protesters burnt Oli’s effigy at Chandranigahapur Chok despite efforts from the local police to stop them.
Dhakal was arrested after he deleted the image from his Facebook wall and apologised for the post.
NSU central member Nawaraj Devkota informed that they staged the protest as part of the protest programme announced by the NSU. The demonstrators also chanted slogan against the government and the Prime Minister.
The NSU had also announced an educational strike in Kavre on Sunday and Monday.
