Nepal Telecom workers’ union: Govt responsible for mismanagement of company

Members of the Nepal Telecom Workers’ Union have accused the government of leading the company into its biggest crisis in history

The union members, who submitted a memo to the Ministry of Information and Communication, said that the government needs to appoint an executive director immediately. The company has been running without a chief executive for the last eight months.

The union has accused the government of blatantly interfering in the appointment of the company’s managing director even as regulations say that the post needs to be filled through open competition.

“The government has tried to limit the autonomy of the company. The board of directors should get to run the company autonomously,” they said in the memo. The union has threatened to resort to stringent protests if the government does not heed its demands soon.
