KMC to construct shelter home for elderly people

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya today said that KMC would construct a building for Manab Sewa Ashram, which has been providing shelter to homeless elderly people for the last six years.

“I am very much impressed with the work done by the ashram. KMC is ready to construct a building for the organisation if it acquires land inside the Metropolitan area.”

MSA had gained recognition after it helped Pashupati Area Development Trust to rehabilitate more than 135 beggars living in the Pashupati area. MSA is operating from 14 districts and six provinces of the country. It is providing service from rented houses in all places. It has also helped Nepal Police rehabilitate 110 elderly people who were forced to live under the open sky.

Govinda Tondon, who runs the organisation, said they were lucky to find such helping hands. MSA said they had so far rescued
1,750 elderly people from the streets. A total of 650 such people are residing in various MSA centres.
