Conflict-affected families of security personnel have launched an indefinite sit-in, demanding implementation of the agreement the government reached with them.

They staged a sit-in in front of Maitighar Mandala today, demanding that the government provide free education and health services to the family members of security personnel killed or injured during the conflict. They also demanded employment for the victims’ family members.

According to Rita Karki, senior vice-president of the Association of Conflict-affected Families of Security Forces, the government had promised to declare security personnel killed during the conflict as martyrs. “But the government has failed to keep its promises,” he said.  She said that their major demands included free education for their children, free health treatment for security personnel injured during the conflict, and monthly livelihood and housing allowance.

The families of the conflict victim have also demanded tax exemption while purchasing land to build house. They claimed that the government had discriminated against them while providing relief fund. Karki said, “We will continue our protest until our demands are met.”
