Hundreds of thousands of candle lights illuminated in the Tundikhel, the heart of the capital city Saturday evening, calling for world peace attained through inner peace.
Some 5,000 candles lights provided a stunning spectacle for the city denizens as they were burning simultaneously for more than one and a half hour.
The flickering lights cast a glow at Tudikhel when hundreds of volunteers, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, political leaders and religious priests lighted the candles, which were placed in the middle of the ground, and prayed for world peace.
Shakya Singha Bihar, Patan, in collaboration of dozens of Nepal and Thai based Buddhist organisations organised the event for peace and goodwill all over the world to respond to the cry of people from around the world.
One of the organisers, suraj khadgi said’The candles burned at the event were the flames of hope to diffuse the darkness of world and help the world keep peace” .
Sabina Shrestha, a visitor who later joined the event, shared, “I was very happy to get a chance to attend the event that has a beautiful goal to promote world peace through inner peace.”
There was a chanting of mantras, helping the participants to achieve inner peace, said Khadgi.
That was an inspiring moment, when thousands of candles were lit together, in hopes of bringing people together for world peace, he added.
During the event, singer Ani Choying Dolma, a popular nun, performed a soothing prayer for the crowd.
